Gerald M. Levy, C.P.C.U.
Gerry Levy has been a driving force and visionary in the insurance industry since he became an independent broker in 1968. Gerry earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Cincinnati and the insurance industry designation C.P.C.U. (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter). While in Cincinnati he earned his insurance licenses, selling insurance part time while teaching and developing math and science curriculum for the Cincinnati School System fulltime. Gerry, born in Brooklyn, New York, returned to New York in 1970 where he began working full time selling insurance at a small Long Island Insurance Agency. He joined CBS Coverage Group (formerly Country Brokerage Services) as Executive Vice President in 1978 and bought the firm in 1984. Today CBS Coverage Group employs over 100 insurance professional in four offices within New York and South Carolina. CBS has over 7000 customers and does business in over 40 States. Gerry continues to grow CBS’ customer base as well as the services and products it provides.
Gerry is an active member of a number of industry organizations as committee and board member such as CPCU-Long Island Chapter, CIAB, IIABNY and PIA. For many years Gerry taught sections of the CPCU designation at Hofstra University. In addition he has participated in numerous agency councils at the local, regional and national levels.
In 1984 while serving as CBS President/CEO, Gerry began working with two industry colleagues developing a new insurance agency management system called Cisco Technologies. Based on a proprietary inter-relational database program, Gerry was looking to automate back end operations of insurance carriers and their independent agents/brokers. The system that was developed also provided critical customer data which significantly helped insurance agents and brokers service their customers more efficiently. The company sold the software to a major carrier in 1992 with Cisco growing to 400 employees under the new joint venture called Cisgem Technologies. Cisgem eventually was purchased, spun off, and sold to a leading insurance software vendor. Gerry led both Cisco and Cisgem through its entire development of software and its ultimate sale (1994) as Chairman of the Board. The system that was developed is called Sagitta and is currently used in over 700 insurances offices throughout the United States.
Gerry continues to focus CBS on implementing effective technology and human resource development. CBS continues to grow its client base by providing superior customer service with a consultative sales process and by leveraging technology as the company acquires other insurance agencies/brokers and specialized insurance talent.
Gerry is very active in local community organizations including: Community Mainstreaming Associates; The Little Village School in Seaford, NY and UJA Long Island Insurance Division, United Way-Long Island Insurance Community.
